Project Description

Rubbish Storytelling is a fun activity for all the family, combining litter picking with some of the skills of storytelling, with the aim of increasing awareness about littering and its effect on the environment.

The activity normally takes place over three two-hour sessions as follows:

Session 1:  Introduction to the Project/The Importance of the Environment/Playing with Language

Session 2:  Introduction to the Route/Health and Safety/Walking and Litter Picking

Session 3:  Talking Rubbish: Creating a story a chosen item of rubbish, using prompts/Sharing Stories

The workshops are facilitated by our CEO/Creative Director, Glenda Berg BA (Hons), who is a creative writer/performer with a BA (Hons) in English Language & Literature.  She also runs regular monthly storytelling events at the Fox & Pine in Oldham.  The environment is especially important to her as her mother was a indigenous Quechua woman from Peru.

Rubbish Storytelling sessions can be carried out anywhere with an indoor workshop space and a safe outdoor space, such as a park or countryside walking trail.  We have previously run the events in a community school and playing field.

The normal cost for the project is £500 which includes workshop facilitation and project management.  However, for more limited budgets, please do talk to us.
